EP Withdrawn

I’ve just deleted ‘Left To Rot’ from my bandcamp. I’ve decided I’m really not happy with the recordings and arrangements of the songs. I’m going to do some work on them along with some other stuff I have demo’d and re release it all together. Also I’m going to practice the hell out of them before recording to make sure I can play them live (you’ll know what I mean if you were at the Hunt Sab benefit the other day).

So yeah, not gonna get down about it just going to focus on making them sound great.

New EP – Left To Rot

Yesterday I recorded and released my new 3 track EP ‘Left To Rot’.

The EP is now available to download for free from my bandcamp site along with my other 2 releases.

The songs are about the wastage of empty buildings, the government work program and long term unemployment.

EP Update & The Guthrie Challenge

EP Update:

I’ve decided that the EP is not going to happen, at least not with the songs and recordings I’ve done so far. Its not because I didn’t think they were good songs its just that they were very shouty. Shouty songs unfortunately are very hit and miss live as to whether I hit the notes or my voice breaks. I’ve instead decided to aim for a more calm Guthrie/Seeger/Paxton style so that when I play the songs live I’m not going to be constantly worrying about killing my voice and making high pitched noises when it breaks.

Guthrie Challenge:

On August 30th I decided to issue myself with what I’ve called the Guthrie challenge. This is based on Woody Guthrie’s new year resolutions (see image), number 8 of which is “Write a song a day”. Guthrie had some good resolutions but this one struck me when I first read them. I thought “a song a day! I struggle to write one a week.” Today is day 4 of #GuthrieChallenge and today I wrote a song about empty buildings because of the new Anti-Squatting law in the UK. So far I’ve written 5 songs during the challenge, some good and some bad but I’ve written them & thats what counts. There is definitely something to writing everyday as well regardless of the outcome. Writing is something I’ve often struggled with, I often complain of writers block and this is definitely helping with that. Hopefully I’ll have enough GOOD songs soon I’ll be able to release another album.

EP Update

Last night whilst most people were watching the Olympic closing ceremony I locked myself away and started work on my recordings. Out of the original 7 planned tracks only 4 are now to feature due to them either not sounding as good as I had hoped or me being unsure about the lyrics. Anyway 4 songs now have guitar tracks down and 2 have the bass (yes bass!) tracks done. Hoping to find a space where I can be loud and get some vocals and percussion done soon then it will be on to the mixing.

Be prepared, so far its sounds very country and I have no idea if that will change.

New EP on the way!

I’ve finally finished writing songs for my next release, after some harsh writers block and a ton of rewrites I’ll now be starting to record my next EP “No Escape” which will feature 6 unheard songs and a good recording of ‘Day After Day’.

I’m no good at keeping to recording schedules with my own stuff (mixing takes FOREVER!) so no dates as of yet but just thought I’d let you all know that something will be out soon(ish).
